From Tokyo Narita Airport
By Train
Arrival at Tokyo Narita Airport. JR East travel service centers are located in the the terminal buildings. Here you can buy all tickets as well as exchange for the JR East Passes. For Tokyo - Hakuba a JR East Pass is enough. For travel to western Japan (Osaka, Kyoto) then you will need to buy a Japan Rail Pass (these can only be purchased overseas).

Shinkansen Route

This is the fastest and most popular method to get to Hakuba. Take the Narita Express (NEX) to Tokyo Station, there are frequent trains throughout the day. Change to to the Nagano Shinkansen (Bullet Train) Asama. Follow the green signs for Nagano Shinkansen. The trains usually depart from platforms 20 to 23. Please allow about 15 to 30mins for your transfer. Arriving at Nagano Station go up the escalators and turn left. Take the east (higashi) exit and bus stand number #5. Total cost is 1234yen. Japan Rail pass can be used for this journey. For transfer times Narita to Hakuba and return Hakuba to Narita

By Super Express


Another option to get into Hakuba early, is to take the Narita Express to Shinjuku Station and then transfer to the Super Azusa. This is a large station but the platforms are close together. The Super Azusa usually leave from platform xx. Please note that there is only one direct train per day leaving Shinjuku at 7.30am and arriving at Hakuba at 11.28am. For other Azusa's you will need to change to local train at Matsumoto and add one extra hour to the journey. Total cost for this route is 123245yen.
By Bus


The cheapest option to Hakuba is to take the Airport Limousine Bus to Shinjuku Station and then transfer to Alpico Highland Bus direct to Hakuba/Happo/Kamishiro(Goryu) Bus Stations. The Airport Limousine buses are located directly outside the terminal buildings. The bus stops are close to together but we suggest you print this map before you go. By Taxi


Shared taxi is probably the easiest route. Driver will meet you at the terminal and then direct transfer to your hotel. The price is set per person. A great way to get to Hakuba without negotiating train stations. Price is 12,000 per person. Please note you will have to book five days in advance. For more information please click here.
From Nagoya Central Airport

Take the Meitetsu Express direct from the terminal to downtown Nagoya Station. Please make sure your train is bound for Nagoya Station platform and not Kanayama Station. Here change to Shinano Express direct to Matsumoto Station. At Matsumoto change to Oito Local Line to Hakuba. Please note there is one Super Express from Matsumoto to Hakuba leaving Matsumoto at ...am and arriving at Hakuba at.........am.


The cheapest and most convenient route to Hakuba is to take the Alpen Resort Liner direct from the Airport to Hakuba. Please note that the bus does not run everyday. Cost is 7000yen one way. For days and times please click here.
